Are Toll Collectors on Your Prospect List?

Posted on July 10th, 2012

RE: Toll Collectors on the George Washington Bridge According to the Wall Street Journal, . . . some toll collectors make more than $100,000 [annually with overtime] This is the equivalent of more than two and one half times what the typical American worker earns.   But toll collectors are not the only blue collar high income producers in America, not by a long shot.  Based upon my research  cited in my first book, Marketing to the Affluent: One of my favorite blue collar [affluent occupations] is that of materials handler. [Materials handling-supervisors, handlers, including crane operators and laborers].  As a side note, captains/officers of...

Marketing to the Affluent in Small Towns

In Stop Acting Rich, I mentioned that many farmers are wealthy because they adhere to the basic rule for building wealth: whatever your income is, live below your means.  In spite of being an affluent segment, it receives very little press coverage.  I also briefly profiled a company that was one of my first clients in the investment industry.   Initially, it operated only in the Midwest, and its wealthiest clients were farmers.  Today it has offices throughout America. The Military Channel recently broadcast a program that dealt with famous submarine captains.  I was particularly interested when I saw an interview with Otto Kretschmer, the most productive submarine skipper in the Atlantic theatre during World War II.  In Marketing to the Affluent, I mentioned reading the book, Memoirs: Ten Years and Twenty Days, by Karl Doenitz, the head of German U-boats.  In his book, Doenitz quotes Kretschmer: My proclivity was to surface in the middle of the convoy: that's where the ammunition and other important ships were. He was the first submariner to do so.  Younger, less experienced captains attacked from outside the convoy often encountering...

Job Search 101

Would you like to work for a business owner who is a millionaire next door type?  If so, pretend for a few minutes that you are one.  As a millionaire, you probably spend at lot of time time reading the trade/professional journals of your industry and the industries you service.  As a successful  business owner, the classified "businesses for sale" section is especially interesting to you because you want to know who is selling what and for how much.  Also, an increasing number of wealthy business owners are confronted with the fact that their children do not have the interest or the discipline to...
